A low carbohydrate intake lowers postprandial blood glucose.
Mixed cereals of low glycaemic index (corn) enables control of postprandial hyperglycaemia.
Dietary fibre slows small intestinal digestion and improves glycaemic control in diabetic dogs.
Diabetes mellitus promotes oxidative stress, which in turn favours the development of diabetes-associated chronic complications (Opara 2002). Antioxidants neutralise free radicals.
